On July 2, the Star-Spangled Celebration on the River will kick off the
weekend’s patriotic festivities in both Hattiesburg and Petal! Both cities will
host music, activities, and, of course, food on their respective sides of the Leaf
River. The family-friendly – and FREE! – event will offer kid zones, event t-
shirts, and specialty souvenirs.
At 9 p.m., the two cities will join forces in a spectacular fireworks show over
the Leaf River that you don’t want to miss. Bring your lawn chair or a blanket
and sit back to enjoy the show. This celebration of the country’s 250th
birthday will take place in Chain Park in Hattiesburg and Petal River Park in
Petal. Join us at this grand event from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Paul B. Johnson State Park is hosting two events to celebrate the season. One on the 3rd, a Water Activities & Evening Entertainment Event, and on the 4th, a Full Day Celebration event to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary. The event costs $5 a person a day, with children ages 5 and under free.

Both have kayaks and canoes available to rent, but call ahead to reserve yours!
