HCLO PREPARING FOR ANNUAL DEARLY DEPARTED CEMETERY TOUR

The Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera is hosting their Dearly Departed Walking Tour on the evening of Friday, Oct. 30, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Hattiesburg.

Heather Wilkes, a board member with HCLO, said this year’s event will be different than last year’s walking tour.

“We’re going to highlight 10 graves in the cemetery,” Wilkes said. “These are not necessarily famous people but interesting people, some criminals, some murder victims, and some politicians.”

Wilkes said this year’s event takes place on the anniversary of the first murder recorded in Hattiesburg.

The walking tour will have local storytellers giving a guided tour of the cemetery.

“We’ve got two great storytellers lined up, Abigail Lenz Allen and Alex Miller,” she said. “Alex was Scrooge in our Christmas tour and was a huge hit then.”

Tours will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and there are five available tours.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12.

To purchase tickets, visit https://rb.gy/r0wlyb. Parking is available at the Hattiesburg Public Library on Hardy Street or at the American Legion on Green Street.
