DORSEY SELECTED AS MISSISSIPPI TOURISM ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE BOARD SECRETARY / TREASURER

HATTIESBURG (Aug. 8, 2018) —  The Mississippi Tourism Association recently held elections for their Executive Board positions. VisitHATTIESBURG Executive Director Marlo Dorsey was voted by her peers to serve as Secretary / Treasurer for fiscal year 2018 – 2019.

 

“Marlo is a leader in the tourism industry. Her depth of knowledge about Mississippi’s legislative process will be an incredible asset to our Association,” Mississippi Tourism Association Executive Director Rochelle Hicks said.

 

The Mississippi Tourism Association is the voice of the tourism industry in Mississippi. Its membership includes destination marketing organizations, hotels, restaurants, casinos, attractions, and other tourism related entities.

 

“I am thrilled to serve in a leadership role on the Mississippi Tourism Association Board of Directors. Tourism is a vital industry in this state, with visitors spending $6.3 billion in FY 2017. I welcome the opportunity to be an advocate for this important part of our economy to the legislature, stakeholders and the general public,” Dorsey said.

 

Dorsey was named Executive Director of VisitHATTIESBURG in 2017 where she was previously the director of marketing and communications for both the Hattiesburg Tourism Commission and Hattiesburg Convention Commission. Prior to her stint in Hattiesburg, Dorsey led the state’s global marketing efforts in economic development and tourism at the Mississippi Development Authority as Chief Marketing Officer. Dorsey also served as Vice-President of Marketing at Jones County Junior College, and she is the former CEO of Cybergate Internet Services. 

 

Dorsey holds an MBA in executive management and a bachelor’s degree in mass communications. She is married to Christopher Dorsey, and the couple has two children, Peyton and Carson. 

 

The Hattiesburg Tourism Commission, doing business as VisitHATTIESBURG™, is the official Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for the City of Hattiesburg. Created to promote the Greater Hattiesburg Area and its tourism industry to potential visitors, the mission of VisitHATTIESBURG™ is to increase overnight bookings for both leisure and corporate travel with the ultimate goal of growing the economic impact of these visitors on the local economy.
