Pace the Trace: You’ve paddled your way around South Mississippi, so why not stretch your legs for a bit? The Longleaf Trace, which runs west from Downtown Hattiesburg through the city to Prentiss, offers a shady and serene setting for bikers and runners, and even equestrian lovers. The paved path follows an old railroad line for 44-miles of scenic views of local vegetation and wildlife. Pack a picnic to enjoy the Trace at a leisurely pace or grab your bike and race your closest friends. Whichever way you choose to visit the Longleaf Trace is sure to leave you satisfied.

GET WILD IN HBURG

Take a walk on the wild side: With more than 100 species of animals, a high ropes adventure course, and a waterpark coming soon, you can reach new heights at the Hattiesburg Zoo. You’ll find a jaguar named Maya, Sue Ellen and Bertie (mom and daughter giraffes), a family of two-toed sloths, wallabies, and more!  Admission ranges from $5-$8 and is located near The University of Southern Mississippi and Downtown Hattiesburg, it's the ideal family outing.

 


 

GET INSPIRED IN HBURG

 Hattiesburg is home to some incredible trails, ranging from art and history to food and treasure hunting. In December 2022, Hattiesburg became home to the first official GeoTour in the state. With 40 stops that take you to local shops, restaurants, parks, and attractions, the Hattiesburg GeoTour is the perfect way to discover HBURG’s offerings. History buffs will enjoy the 1964 Freedom Summer Trail, a 16-stop driving and audio tour that shares Hattiesburg’s role in the civil rights movement. But wait! There’s more! Named a top 11 art destination by Travel + Leisure magazine in 2022, the Hub City is home to the HBURG Public Art Trail, which has more than 100 stops in total including its murals, sculptures, and utility boxes.

Play 18 (Or the back 9): A major draw to Hattiesburg is its many golf courses, including championship options. Whether you’re looking to make a day of it with a few friends or just want to squeeze in the back 9 on a free afternoon, golfers have plenty of courses from which to choose. Visitors can check out Shadow Ridge and Timberton near Midtown. Local? Private courses like Canebrake and the Hattiesburg Country Club offer even more options. Want to try your hand at disc golf? No worries! Both Tatum Park and Paul B. Johnson State Park have beautiful courses that are free to play. With a bright blue sky overhead, you’re on par for a great day on the green in HBURG.
