604 Mobile St.
Hattiesburg, MS
E. Hammond Smith, one of the first black men to register to vote in Hattiesburg, opened Smith Drug Co. in 1925 on Mobile Street in Hattiesburg. In addition to providing medicine and everyday products, the store served as an important focal point for civil rights efforts by becoming a meeting place for local leaders and was even visited by national civil rights activists.
In 2020, Smith Drug Co. was renovated and restored, and serves as part of Hattiesburg's Sixth Street Museum District.
